People gathered in a GDS Academy room

Digital is transforming how government works. We are here to teach public sector professionals the skills they need to embrace this change. To work more efficiently and creatively, and to build the best possible services for users, whatever their level of technical expertise.

Why enrol

The GDS Academy offers a range of courses, with introductory sessions for non-specialists, specialised courses for people in digital roles and training for leaders responsible for digital services.

Our courses are available to civil servants, local government employees, devolved administrations and other public servants.

We run courses in Leeds, London, Manchester and Newcastle and pop up courses in Birmingham.

Emerging Technology Development Programme

The understanding and application of emerging technologies should be core to the practice of the Civil Service. Consequently, a new programme has been designed by the GDS Academy in order to create an ongoing and deployable cadre of specialists with the skills, knowledge and confidence to act as advisors in the employment of emerging technologies to government’s most difficult problems.

Following a successful pilot, GDS is due to open the programme to applications across the Civil Service in 2018.

User-centred design training

The user-centred design team runs training to help people design the best possible, user-focused services. These range from introductions for non-specialists, to advanced topics for digital professionals.

Places are only open to civil servants. Contractors employed with government are welcome on some courses.
